Financial Aid Awards - Terms & Conditions
Terms & Conditions

I. General Provisions

1. DURATION OF AWARDS: All aid is granted for fall and/or spring terms only, unless otherwise stated.

2. REPLY FORM: No aid will be credited to a student’s account until the reply form, if required, is completed, signed and returned to the Financial Aid Office.

3. CREDIT TO ACCOUNTS: After receipt of the reply form, if required, all finalized awards with the exception of student employment and loans are credited to student accounts and deducted from total charges, provided the student is registered for the minimum number of credits required by the award. Federal Stafford and PLUS loans are reflected as cash payments upon receipt of loan funds through Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) or negotiation of checks, where appropriate. Loans listed below (see Program Information) are credited upon receipt of a properly completed promissory note. No ESTIMATED awards are credited to accounts.

4. ADDITIONAL AID: Aid awards received subsequent to this notice must be reported to the Financial Aid Office. Notice should come directly from the aid source.

5. ADJUSTMENTS: The University reserves the right to adjust awards in accordance with regulations governing programs of aid and University policy.

6. REFUNDS: Students applying for refunds of credit created by financial aid awards are advised that refunds will not be made until actual funds are RECEIVED AND PROCESSED FOR ALL SOURCES OF AID. Application for refund is to be filed with the Student Accounts Office. In addition, should the student later become ineligible for any part of the financial aid package, he/she will be responsible for returning funds to Duquesne University.

7. WITHDRAWAL: Recipients of financial aid who plan to withdraw from the University should arrange an appointment with his or her Financial Aid Counselor prior to withdrawal.

II. Program Information

1. FEDERAL PELL GRANT: Eligibility based on formula established each year by Federal Government. If Duquesne University was NOT listed as a potential school of enrollment when completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the student must submit all copies of the Student Aid Report (SAR) to finalize the award. The award is shown as estimated if the SAR is required and has not been received by the Financial Aid Office. The amount of a Federal Pell Grant indicated on this notice indicates the student’s eligibility based on full-time enrollment for the year (unless otherwise stated). Note: An ESTIMATED Federal Pell Grant is NOT an official award.

2. STATE GRANT: A State Grant indicated on the award letter is based on notification received from the agency. An estimated award is based on projected eligibility and is NOT an official award. It is assumed the student will apply for the award and will meet all requirements of the award, including filing prior to deadline dates. The University cannot replace estimated funds which are not awarded due to the failure of the student to apply on time. Student must maintain academic progress to continue eligibility.

3. UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS/GRANTS: Awards to incoming undergraduate students are made to qualified students by the Admissions Office. New upperclass scholarships are based on academic qualifications (minimum 30 credits earned at Duquesne University with a minimum 2.50 QPA), financial need, and available funding. Renewal procedures for all awards are outlines on the reverse. Awards are renewable for the normal period required to complete undergraduate program requirements.

4. FEDERAL SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY GRANT (Supplemental Grant): Based on exceptional financial need and available funding, with preference to Federal Pell Grant recipients. Failure to submit Federal Pell Grant SAR’s, if requested, will cause cancellation of this grant.

5. Financial Aid Office administered scholarships, grant funds, and Catholic high school discounts are restricted to undergraduate students.

6. LOANS: All loans are based on demonstrated need and available funding. Federal Loans are: Perkins – available to both graduate and undergraduate students; Nursing – available to dependent full-time undergraduate Nursing students; and Health Profession – available to dependent full-time undergraduate Pharmacy student. Repayment begins after enrollment ceases at a 5% interest rate. University Loans are: Alcoa, Gulf, Heinz, Powers, and Kerschgens. Interest and repayment terms vary – see promissory note.

7. EMPLOYMENT: Award amount shown is an estimate of earnings, contingent upon available jobs and actual hours worked. Earnings are paid directly to the student and cannot be deducted from billings. The Office of Human Resource Management is responsible for actual placement in available positions.

8. CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE DISCOUNTS:
Graduates of Vincentian Academy/Duquesne University are given a discount equal to 25% of Basic Tuition Rate.
Graduates of a Roman Catholic High School in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown are given a discount equal to 10% of Basic
